- Plantar flexes foot.
- Flexes the leg at the knee.

Soleus
O:
Proximal half of posterior surface of tibia along soleal line.
proximal 1/3 of posterior fibula.
I: Posterior calcaneus via calcaneal tendon.

A: Plantar flexes foot.

Plantaris
O: Inferior lateral supracondylar ridge of femur just above attachment of lateral head of gastrocnemius.
I: Posterior calcaneus (tuberosity) via calcaneal tendon.

A:
Plantar flexes foot.
Flexes the leg at the knee.

Tibialis Posterior
O:
a. Lateral portion of posterior, proximal tibia.
b. Interosseous membrane.
c. Medial portion of posterior, proximal half of fibula.
I: Navicular tuberosity, cuneiforms, cuboid, 2-4 metatarsals, and sustentaculum tali of calcaneus.
Inner: Tibial nerve (L5, S1).
A:
- Inverts foot.
- Plantar flexes foot.

Flexor digitorum longus
O: Medial half of middle posterior surface of tibia
I: Bases of distal phalanges II-V (along plantar surfaces).
Inner: Tibial nerve (L5, S1)
A:
- Flexes phalanges II-V.
- Plantar flexes foot

Flexor Hallucis Longus
O:
a. Distal 2/3 of posterior surface of fibula.
b. Adjacent interosseous membrane.
I: Base of distal 1st phalanx (along plantar surface).
Inner: Tibial nerve (L5, S1, S2).
A:
- Flexes phalanx.
- Plantar flexes foot.

Tibialis Anterior
O:
- Lateral condyle & superior 2/3 of anteriolateral surface of tibia;
- Interosseous margin.
I:
Medial & plantar surfaces of medial cuneiform.
Base of 1st metatarsal along the medial & plantar surfaces.
Inner: Deep peroneal nerve (L4, L5, S1
A:
- Dorsiflexes foot at ankle.
- Inverts foot at ankle

Extensor Digitorum Longus
O: Lateral condyle of tibia & superior 3/4 of anterior surface of fibula; interosseous margin.
I:
Middle & distal phalanges of digits 2-5.
Inner: Deep peroneal nerve (L4, L5, S1
Actions:
- Extends toes 2-5.
- Dorsiflexes foot at ankle.

Extensor Hallucis Longus
O:
Middle anterior surface of fibula.
interosseous margin.
I:
Distal phalanx #1 (big toe).
Inner: Deep peroneal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
A:
- Extends toes #1 (big toe).
- Dorsiflexes foot at ankle.
- Inverts foot at ankle.

Fibularis Longus
O: Head and proximal 1/2 to 2/3 of lateral side of fibula.
I: Crosses plantar surface of foot to attach to lateral sides of medial (1st) cuneiform and 1st metatarsal.
Inner: Superficial fibular (peroneal) nerve (L4, L5, S1).
A:
- Plantar flexes foot at ankle.
- Everts foot at ankle.

Fibularis Brevis
O: Distal 1/3 to 1/2 of lateral side of fibula.
I: Tuberosity on lateral side of 5th metatarsal.
Inner: Superficial fibular (peroneal) nerve (L4, L5, S1).
A:
- Plantar flexes foot at ankle.
- Everts foot at ankle.
