Week 3 Lecture 1 Flashcards
Object Quality
Sy
Synthesis
Distinct and separate objects in a meaningful relationship
Vg
Vagueness
Objects with vague or indistinct outline or boundary
2
Pair
Identical objects based on the symmetry
Code: two people facing each other, they’re touching/looking at each other/talking
Sy
Can Sy be illogical
Yes!
you don’t have to understand the relationship to code it
ex: a bird getting inside that guy’s head
overarching organization
associated with their relative positioning or spatial grouping
- A family with the parents here and the children down here
- A couple that is in love
Clothing and Sy
if the attribute is identified as a separate object
Anatomy and Sy
default is that anatomy should NOT be coded Sy
HOWEVER, this does not apply if it is seen in relation to bodily fluids or blood outside of the body
Static contexts and Sy
objects interacting in a static context get a Sy code
Vg Vagaueness
Code if ALL objects lack specific form demand and none is injected
Form Demand
the outline or internal features inherent in the shape of the object as it is described
Exceptions for when changeable shapes are NOT
coded Vg
Direct or indirect communication that the outline of the object is a distinguishing feature
If at least one object in a multiple object response qualifies as having a definite shape or form demand
Can Sy and Vg be coded together?
Yes!
2
Pair
coded if blot symmetry defines two identical objects on either side
When is 2 (pair) not coded?
when blot symmetry produces a reflection or a mirrored image
(the mountain is reflected in the lake)
Saying “2” for pair
Respondent does not need to say “two of the same” or even the word “two” for a Pair to be coded
