Chambers to hear complaints
How many judges make up a chamber?
Seven judges, plus an additional one who represents a state against which a complaint is being made
What does each chamber set up?
Committees of three judges to consider applications and dismiss any lacking credentials to progress to a full hearing
What is a judge who receives a complaint from an individual known as, and what do they do?
A rapporteur who passes the complaint on to a committee or chamber, depending on who they consider to be the most relevant
Where do particularly difficult cases get passed on to?
The Grand Chamber
What does the Grand Chamber also act as?
An appeal court
How does the office work in the Grand Chamber?
Judges hold office for 6 years at a time, and half are replaced every 3 years
