What is attached to each county court?
Enforcement agents, who enforce orders and collect money
Who are county court cases heard by?
A deputy district judge, a district judge or a circuit judge
Who are circuit judges?
Circuit judges are senior judges who have a wider jurisdiction than that of a district judge, so they hear the more complex cases
Who are district judges?
District judges can hear any cases that are allocated to small claims track, fast track, and in-between multi-track cases. They can also hear possession claims
Where are appeals from the Magistrates court made to?
Crown Court or High Court
What does the Magistrates Court deal with?
Usually criminal cases, but sometimes family cases and non-payments of council tax
What three divisions make up the High Court?
- Chancery Division
- King’s Bench Division
- Family Division
What does the Court of Appeal (civil division) hear?
Appeals made against decisions in a county or in the High Court
What are the civil courts in order?
- County Court (sometimes Magistrates)
- High Court
- Court of Appeal (civil division)
- Supreme Court
