Critical thinking
A process in which a nurse processes information, comes to an understanding of a problem or situation, develops, implements and evaluates plans whilst using reflection to learn from outcomes.

Cardiac arrest

Sternum
Provision of maintenance of the airway, breathing, circulation
Basic life support
Technique of providing rescue breathing and effective chest compressions to restore oxygenation and circulation.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Compression of the chest performed during CPR by placing pressure on the lower third of the sternum
Chest compressions
Battery operated device that senses cardiac rhythm, determines appropriateness of an electric shock to convert the rhythm to normal and can deliver a shock manually or automatically.
Automatic external defibrillator
Side laying position used to assist keep an airway open in the unconscious person.
Recovery position
Does not respond to external stimul

Considering the patient situation should
describe or list facts, context, objects or people. It should focus on the immediate situation
Collecting cues/information about a person you are caring for involves:
Reviewing patient information, gathering assessment finding and recalling theoretical knowledge.
S.M.A.R.T goals should be developed to address any problems/issues that have been identified for patients.
Goals need to be
- Specific in the outcome that is desired.
- Measurable to evaluate if interventions are effective.
- Achievable for that particular persons in that particular circumstance.
- Relevant to the problem that is being addressed.
- Timeframe appropriate and realistic, should be set for the goal to be evaluated allowing for adjustments of the goal and interventions if required.
