What are the most common causative agents of cellulitis?
Staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pyogenes and group B, C and G streptococci.
What is cellulitis?
Cellulitis is an acute spreading infection of the skin that involves subcutaneous tissues. Prodromal symptoms include fever and lymphadenopathy.
What is the most common causative pathogen of boils?
Staphylococcus aureus
What are clinical indicators of rapidly progressing SSTIs?
Disproportionate pain, violaceous bullae, cutaneous haemorrhage, skin sloughing and gas in tissues on imaging.
What are common animal pathogens?
Pasteurella spp and capnocytophaga spp
Anaerobic bacteria
What are common therapies for animal bites?
- Amoxicllin-clavulanic acid or piperacillin-tazobactam
- Metronidazole and (doxycycline or cotrimazole)
- Ciprofloxacin and clindamycin
What are types of fungal infections?
TInea capitis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea pedia.
