What did the Civil War bring?
The Civil War brought new technolgies to the battle field that cause more destruction and loss of life
What is a major event?
It refers to significant gains or significant losses on either side
Describe two significant events with the navies.
- The first two ironclad ships fought eachother in the Civil War 2. The successful use of a submarine
What side did Percival and Thomas Drayton agree with during the war?
Percieval was aganist slavery, and Drayton thought it was okay
What happened at Fort Walker?
Fort walker was attacked, and within two hours, it was abandoned and its commander fled on horseback
How many enslaved people were free after the Battle of Port Royal?
10,000 people were freed
What were enslaved people not allowed to do? What were they expected to help with in the War?
They werent aloud to enlist in the army or be on the battle field. They were expected to help the army
Why is January 1, 1863 an important date?
African Americans would be aloud to enlist in the army, particarly with white officers
Who was Stephen Swails?
He was the first African American comissioned as a first lieutienant in the US army
What traits are the Congressional Medal of Honor given out for?
Bravery, courage, and honor
What did the Native Americans hope would happen at the end of the War?
Whichever side won, the government would treat them as valued allies in the future
Why did immigrants come from Ireland to America?
People were being pushed from there homes from famine and poverty
How were they able to make a living in the United States?
The army was offering $10 a month plus food and clothing for a long term enlistment period
What was the Irish Brigade?
The Army created the irish bridgade. All mebers if the unit were irish. The bridgade fought in every major war
How were women influential in the War?
Many women gathered medical care, women disguised themselves as men to fight, some were spies, many women opened up their houses, and some were nurses
