It admmited Missouri as a slave state, and Maine as a free state
What does “free state” and “slave state” mean?
A free state means slavery is illegal, a slave state means slavery was legal
What did the Kansas-Nebraska Act allow?
It allowed people to vote to decide if they would legalize slavery

He was involved in negotiating everything from peace treaties to territorial organization in his work.

The majority ruled that enslaved people were property, not citizens
