What are the five ways a person can legally enter the U.S.?
Family-based immigration, employment-based immigration, refugee or asylum status, the Diversity Visa Lottery, and various non-immigrant visas (e.g., student or tourist visas).
What is the DREAM Act? What is the status of this act?
The DREAM Act is a proposal to grant legal status to certain undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. It has not been passed into law.
What is DACA? How does someone qualify for this program?
DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) provides temporary protection from deportation and work authorization to eligible undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. To qualify, individuals must have arrived before their 16th birthday, lived continuously in the U.S. since June 15, 2007, be under age 31 as of June 15, 2012, and meet educational and criminal background requirements.
How does DACA impact the DREAM Act?
DACA provides temporary relief and work authorization but does not offer a path to permanent residency or citizenship, which the DREAM Act aims to address.
What part of the U.S. Constitution is Texas violating by attempting to build a wall along the Texas-Mexican border?
Texas might be violating the supremacy clause (Article 6) and possibly the commerce clause (Article 1, Section 8) as immigration and border security are federal responsibilities.
What is the definition of citizenship according to the U.S. Constitution?
According to the 14th Amendment, all persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.
