Week 2 PP Flashcards
Where is gingival cord placed ffor veeners?
placed facial only
Where is gingival cord placed for Crowns?
Plaecd around the entire tooth
Where is gingival cord placed for Inlay & Onlay?
None required
Cord Retraction Facts..
-required by dental tech to fabricate fixed cast
-placed subgingival around the floor of the sulcus
-cord forces the tissue temporary away from the tooth by mechanical force
Why is Cord Retraction placement technique important?
tissue damage requires up to 14 days to heal
permanent loss of gingival crest may result
What is the objective of the gingival retraction cord instrument?
The objective is to place the retraction cord without damaging the surrounding gingival tissues
What is a nonimpregnated rectraction cord?
Does not contain chemicals
What is an impregnated retractin cord?
-with 5-10% aluminum chloride
-controls BLEEDING (Hemodent) causes the desired provisional shrinkage of tissues
-safe to use with cardiovascular patients
Variations of Gigival Rectraction Cords?
- untwisted, twisted, braided
- various degrees of thickness
What sizes of gingival retraction cords are available?
000
#00
#0
#1 mm
#2 mm
#3 mm
Medical History Alert for Epinephrine Impregnated Cords
-Hemophiliacs or patients on aspirin therapy (blood thinner) should use a stronger more potent agent
-Vasoconstrictors (ephinephrine) should be avoided in patients who have hypertension, heart disease, or hyperthyroidism
Mechanical Gingival Retraction Cor Methods..
- Physical without chemical (2 or 1 cord)
- Physical with added chemical (2 or 1 cord)
- Surgical
What is Hemodent?
To help with gum bleeding - if there is bleeding they will continuously spray this during cord placement
What types of cords are used for double cord placement?
Thinner cord is placed first, thicker cord is placed 2nd
When is the surgical method used?
Hypertrophied gingival tissue present
- Tissue is removed
*electrosurgery
*surgical knife
*laser
