medication to prevent blood clots

a small glass bottle with a sealed rubber cap
Vial
an addictive drug (potentially) but can relieve pain
Narcotic
a class of drugs including heroin, fentanyl and oxycontin
Opioid
Thick muscle in the thigh. Used for IM injections in adults and infants
Vastus lateralis
In the gluteus medius muscle. The preferred site for IM injections
Ventrogluteal site
Found on the outer upper arm. No more than 1ml should be injected
Deltoid muscle
Found in the upper thigh
Rectus femoris
a type of drug used to treat symptoms of nausea and vomiting
Antiemetic
medication to relieve pain
Analgesia
the study of the absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of drugs
Pharmacokinetics
the process by which a drug changes the body
Pharmacodynamics
The time taken for the process of elimination to reduce the concentration of the drug to one half of the that at administration
Half-life
a drug that inhibits cell function by occupying receptor sites
