Q

What line weights used for? (4 things)

A

To show relationships in time or space
(A dashed line might show an existing portion of a house has been demolished (time) An element underground can’t really be ‘seen’ drawn with a hidden line (space)

To establish hierarchy- To bring the viewer’s attention to particular parts of the drawing identified as important first.

To create depth- Converting 3d spatial ideas into a 2d drawing. Darkest lines come to the front and lighter lines fall into the background.

To add legibility and clarity to a dense drawing- Drawings with a lot of overlapping information use different lineweights to distinguish one type of information from another
