Week 2 EKG Basics Flashcards
EKG
captures the heart’s electrical activity
rate
rhythm
A standard EKG involves
12 leads and 10 electrodes
Electrode
sticky pad attached to skin that allows electrical activity to be recorded
Lead
visual representation of activity at multiple electrodes
P wave
arterial depolarization
<0.12s
<2.5mm voltage
PR interval
action potential spreads to AV node
0.12-0.20s
QRS complex
ventricular depolarization 0.06-0.12s
Voltage/height <2.5-3.0mm
T wave
ventricular repolarization
should match direction of QRS complex
ST segment
plateau phase btw depolarization and repolarization
RR interval
Duration/length between each generated action potential or heartbeat
Should be of regular length between beats/R waves
Calculating regular rhythm
60/R-R interval
