week 2 Flashcards
what is a infectious disease
when a foreign object most of the times a pathogen enters your body and gets you infected
what is a pathogen
it is a disease causing agent
what are the 6 different types of pathogens
bacteria, viruses, parasitic worms, fungi, parasitic worm, prions
what is the chain of infection
its how a infection spreads
pathogen, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission,, portal of entry, new host
what are the two different modes of transmissions
direct ( sneezing on someone) indirect, coughing on a handle
5 stages of infection
incubation stage, prodromal stage, clinical stage, decline stage and recovery stage
what are the 3 factors of susceptibility
number of invading cells, previous experience, state of the host
incubation stage
the host usually isn’t infectious and some symptoms are present
prodromal stage
host is now infectious and now is experiencing more symptoms
clinical stage
this is the peak of the disease and when you are the most infectious
declining stage
the number of pathogens are declining
recovery stage
the host is recovering and might still be infectious just at a lesser degree
what is the most common illness
the cold
examples of fungi infections
athlete’s foot
example of protozoa infection
bever fever ( drinking diahreea water)
example of parasitic worm infection
tape worm
example of bacterial infection
e coli
example of viral infection
covid
