What is the public interest disclosure act (PIDA)?
whistleblowing
- disclosure of unethical or unsafe practice
- for anything that creates danger to life, health or safety of persons or environment
What are the 4 ethical considerations when deciding to whistleblow on an individual or organization?
A- safe, compassionate care
D - honor dignity - speak up
F- promote justice - refuse to be complicit
G- work collaboratively - protect the patient by stepping in
What is the difference between moral distress and ethical distress?
moral distress- i know what to do but i’m blocked from doing it
ethical distress- having options but one ethical right will be honoured and one will be broken
What is nurse burnout?
Emotional and physical exhaustion d/t stressful responsibilities
What is compassion fatigue?
prolonged emotional strain causes detachment and difficulty providing empathetic care.
