A
feeling of apprehension uneasiness, uncertainty resulting from real or perceived threat

A
- family of disorders that share excessive anxiety that interferes in everyday life as a core symptom
- interferes with quality of life and function
- greater than expected in intensity and duration

generalized anxiety disorder
A
- enduring anxiety across life situations
- functioning associated physical symptoms (QOL)
- early onset
- chronic course with severe symptoms following acute stressors

generalized anxiety disorder diagnosis
A
anxiety associated with 3+ of the following for more days than not for 6 months:
- restlessness or feeling on edge
- being easily fatigued
- difficulty concentrating or mind going blank
- irritability
- muscle tension
- sleep disturbances

social anxiety disorder
A
- intense fear of social situations
- impacts QOL and support system
- early onset in adolescence
- clinical course is generalized to all social situations; specifically isolated to 1-2 specific situations

panic disorder
A
- repeated episodes of panic; abrupt surges of fear/discomfort associated with multiple physical/cognitive symptoms
- impacts QOL; social/occupational engagement
- onset more common in women and in early adulthood
- chronic course with remissions and exacerbations

- triggered by terrifying event either experiencing or witnessing it
- onset follows traumatic event
- symptoms include flashbacks; nightmares; severe anxiety; uncontrollable thoughts

- severe obsessions

- early 20-mid 30s & can affect children

- excessive acquisition of and inability to discard material possessions
- impacts functioning social/occupational/engagement/health/family/insight
- increase in severity with age
- often co-occuring with mood/anxiety disorder, OCD, ADHD
