- This act allowed the federal gov’t control over Indian status, land, resources, wills, education and band administration
- Treaty also outlined obligations and benefits for both parties
- Indian made a legal term
Define inuit
- These are the founding people of what Canada is
- Occupies 4 regions known as intuit nunangat
Define metis
- These people are descendants of Indian and European marriages

2) Has historic metis nation ancestry
3) Accepted by the metis nation
Define treaties and their purpose
Treaties were alliances hat established relationships and were used long before Europeans arrived

Colonization intended to remove indigenous peoples from lands, suppress nations and gov’ts. Ex: Indian act, residential schools
Assimilation: social process of absorbing one cultural group into another
