Physical Changes

A

the brain - the second change begins around age 17 years and continues into early adulthood, when the frontal lobes of the cerebral cortex (area that controls logic and planning) are developing

Skeletal System

A

-girls attain most of their height by 16 years
-boys grow until 18-20 years
-cephalocaudal /proximodistal patterns are reversed so hands and feet grow first and the trunk is usually the slowest part to grow
-girls % fat rises and % muscle falls
- boys % fat falls and % muscle rises

-increase in size and the heart rate drops
-increase in capacity for sustained physical effort and both of these changes are more marked in boys than girls
Sexual behaviour- By 18-19 years 68% of teens have had sex
Females are more likely than males to report having sex without using a condom (37% vs 27%) Why is it that females are more likely to not wear a condom? That is assertive, females are less assertive, culturally it makes sense how females raised, less likely to purchase condom, on birth control, invincibility complex comes into play, look term relationship, if we do not understand they are weighing oaiteint potential and partner responsibility and think about health promotion.
