Word token
Any concrete entity that makes up a sentence.
Word type
An abstraction over one or more word tokens that have the same form.
Word form
A phonological/orthographic shape that is used as a building block in a sentence.
Lexeme
An abstraction over one ore more word forms that convey the same meaning.
Tokenisation
The process of dividing a sentence into word tokens.
Compounds
Combinations of more than one lexeme that typically have a meaning together that is not predictable from the meanings of the individual lexemes.
Fixed phrases
A syntactic combination of lexemes that are used together and that has a meaning that is typically not predictable from the meanings of the individual lexemes.
Lexical item
Any item consisting of a single of multiple word form(s), which, because of its unpredictable meaning (or form) must be learned individually.

Contraction
An orthographic entity consisting of two word forms, one of which is reduced.
Clitic
An item that is phonologically attached to another word form but that in other respects behaves as an independent word form.

A clitic is a type of contraction.
