Types of joints: Synarthrosis
Catagory of “Together joints”
Very little to no movement
Often Fibrous
Types of joints: Syndesmosis
Fibrous joint
e.g.
Sagittal and Coronal sutures during devlopment, Interosseous membrane between radius and ulna.
Types of joints: Synchondrosis
Cartilaginous joint
e.g.
Primary: Epiphysial plate of femur (temporary joint made of hyaline cartilage)
Secondary: Invertebral disc (permanent joint made of fibrocartilage)
Types of joints: Symphysis
A secondary cartilaginous joint composed of fibrocartilage found between the two pubic bones.
Types of joints: Synostosis
Bony joint; two bones joined together by bone.
Joint may have existed as fibrous or cartilaginous during development, e.g. fronal bones, epiphyseal plate.
Types of joints: Synovial joints
Movable joints.
Synovial membrane
Endothelium of a synovial joint. Makes synovial fluid (Recall hyaluronic acid).
Articular cartilage
Refers to hyaline cartilage found on the articular surface of the bone.
Name for growth plate. What type of cartilage is present during the growth phase?
Epiphysial plate. Hyaline cartilage.
