What are the 3 types of care services in the NHS?
1) Primary care
2) Secondary care
3) Tertiary care
Outline how the 3 services are different from each other
Primary care is where you book yourself in, self-referral
Secondary care is where you have community mental health teams and you need referral
Tertiary care is where you have hospital/inpatient, this is above and beyond what’s delivered in the community
What is the Stepped Care Model?
Provides appropriate level of care which isn’t burdening, can be stepped up or down
What is an IAPT programme, and why is it seen as a good step forward?
The service that people will most likely access treatment through, people can refer themselves without needing to go through a GP (gatekeeper)
What are the 3 main aspects of an IAPT programme?
1) Offer evidence based psychological therapies
2) Routine outcome monitoring e.g. always collecting data and asking clients to fill out questionnaires, assessing service performance and for research purposes etc
3) Focused supervision for clinicians to ensure high quality treatment e.g. guided self help, CBT, online therapies for those who can’t access face-to-face
What is the DSM-5?
A system that defines clusters of symptoms that fall under a diagnosis
What are the 2 opposing views of being diagnosed?
People find it helpful to better understand their experiences, But other people find it stigmatising to have a label
What is Formulation?
A technique used to co-constrict an understanding of how a persons difficulties developed and what keeps them going

Formulations are hypotheses, which means what?
That they can change during the course of therapy
Where are Clinical Psychologists trained?
In the NHS, on a doctoral level course
