Week 1: Terms in Metabolic, Cardiovascular & Respiratory response to Exercise Flashcards
Sources of energy? Chemical? What is it used by?
Energy comes from carbohydrates, fats & proteins. Energy must be converted to Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) be used by nerves, muscles and other cells.
he point during exercise at which oxygen uptake is changing or changes very little.
Steady State
The greatest rate of oxygen utilization attainable during heavy work.
VO2 Max
The number of beats of the heart per minute.
Heart Rate (HR)
The amount of blood pumped in one beat of the heart.
Stroke Volume
The pressure exerted by the blood on the vessel walls.
Blood Pressure
Define kinesiology
Scientific study of human movement
Define planes of movement
Flat imaginary surfaces that divide the body into halves in order to correspond with movement, motion and actions. Human movement occurs in a plane.
4 Planes of movement?
1) Medial/Sagittal
2) Frontal/Coronal
3) Transverse/ Horizontal
4) Oblique Plane
A vertical plane that passes through the body anterior to posterior.
Medial/Sagittal
A vertical plane that passes through the body from side to side dividing the body into anterior and posterior sections. Abduction and adduction actions occur within the frontal plane.
Frontal/Coronal
A horizontal plane that passes through the body dividing the body into superior and inferior sections. Rotation and twisting actions occur within the transverse/horizontal plane.
Transverse/Horizontal
A plane that lies tilted between the 3 primary planes associated with kinesiology.
Oblique Plane
