Week 1: Basic Physiology Flashcards
What is Basic Physiology?
Study of human body function
Types of Muscle
Smooth, Cardiac, Skeletal/Striated
Muscles apply force by contracting and pulling on bones.
Muscle Contraction
a muscle contraction in which the force of the muscle is greater than the resistance, resulting in joint movement with shortening of the muscles.
Isotonic Contraction
A shortening of the muscle as a result of contracting.
Isotonic: Concentric Phase
A lengthening of the muscle during its contraction; resists movement caused by another force.
Isotonic: Eccentric Phase
A muscle contraction in which the muscle length is changed.
Isometric Contraction
A muscle contraction with controlled speed, allowing maximal force to be applied throughout the range of motion.
Isokinetic Contraction
