Q

PART 1: Percseptual Illusions

What are the Illusions of Motion: Forward displacement?

A
  • Memory for the final position of a moving target is displaced forwards in the direction of motion
  • The displacement reflects the implied momentum of the target
  • Freyd and Finke (1984) were the first to refer to this illusion as The Representational Momentum Effect

PART 2: Theories

What is ‘‘Predictive Processing Account’’ ?

A
  • Perception is a process of predicting sensory input rather than passively recieving it
  • The brain uses past experiences and prior knowledge to generate predictions about the sensory input it will receive
  • Incoming sesnory information is then compared to predictions to see if they match, which can create perceptual biases
  • Prediction errors are sent back up to revise future predictions
