What is a subduction zone and how does it relate to what is happening off the coast of BC?
A
A subduction zone is where one plate is being forced under another. The Pacific plate is subducting underneath the North American plate.

What is a terrane?
A
A fragment of crustal material that is broken off of a subducting plate and accreted onto the plate that is overtop
