Week 1 Introduction To Pathophysiology Flashcards
What are the cluster of cells of the Pancreas called?
Islets of Langerhans.
Which pancreatic cells are responsible for secreting insulin?
Beta cells.
Which pancreatic cells are responsible for secreting somatostatin & gastrin?
Delta cells.

Alpha cells.
What are the 2 types of diabetes?
Type 1 & type 2.
What are the pathological changes that occur with Type 1 diabetes?
There is destruction of the beta cells of the Islets of Langerhans.
What are the pathological changes that occur with Type 2 diabetes?
There is reduction in the number of the beta cells of the Islets of Langerhans or there is an increased resistance to insulin.
Name 3 symptoms of Diabetes?
