Science of dosage form design
➢ Discipline in pharmacy that deals with all the features of the process of turning a new chemical entity into a medication able to be safely and effectively used by patients in the community.
PHARMACEUTICS
Is an agent intended for use in the
diagnosis, mitigation, treatment,
cure or prevention of disease in
humans or in other animals. (FDC Act 1938)
DRUG
Is the* physical form of a dose of a chemical compound used as a drug
or medication intended for
administration or consumption.
➢ “a form by which drug molecules are delivered to sites of action within the body”
PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORM
Method or process of administering a pharmaceutical compound to achieve a therapeutic effect in humans or in animals.
➢ Focus on the synthesis of target
therapy.

DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM
Is the path by which a drug is brought into contact with the body.
➢ A substance must be transported from the site of entry to the part of the body where its action is desired to
take place.
