A

• Is a complex scene (for a range of reasons).
• Is not routine and requires specialist skills or organisations.
• May include multiple casualties, multiple agencies,
protracted/complex incidents, or even just an incident
attracting public interest
• Major incidents will generally be managed using an
Emergency Response Plan.

Recognition
• This is the alert and escalation phase.
• The notification stage commences when the initial call has been received in the Comms Centre.

Response
• Commences when the first resource arrives on scene and provides a windscreen SitRep. This allows the response level of the major incident to be re-assessed.
• Conduct a reconnaissance and provide ETHANE SitRep as soon as possible.

Recovery
• This stage continues until the last resource has left the incident and all patients have been cared for.
• The recovery stage commences concurrently with response.
• Recovery is where the organisation restores and replaces resources and accounts for all actions that were taken in response to managing the incident.
