What is an example of a judgment/assumption versus a hypothesis?
Judgment: The man is inconsiderably loud
Hypothesis: The man is loud because he is hard of hearing
What is an impairment?
any loss/abnormality of function
What is a disability?
any restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity normal for a human
What is a handicap?
the result of an individual with an impairment not being about to live a normal life
What is the WHO model?
World Health Organization Model
- Integrates the perspectives of an individual’s overall health condition with the body function, participation in activity, environmental and personal factors
- Shows that two people can have the same disorder and present differently
What is kinesthetic awareness and deliberate attention?
kinesthetic awareness- what does it feel like to make the sound; easy vs. effortful discrimination
deliberate attention - top-down awareness of stimuli while blocking out other stimuli
What do SOVT exercises do?
Increase back pressure (supraglottal pressure)
Easy manner of phonation
What are the severities of voice problems?
Mild - voice only has some difficulty some of the time
Moderate - the problem is more consistent and is usually distracting
Severe - very distracting, hard to pay attention to the content
What are the three tasks of evaluating voice?
Sustained vowels
Sentence production
Spontaneous speech
