Weberian Flashcards
Rex and Tomlinson-class
Experiencing both class and status inequality can lead to poverty and therefore some ethnic minorities may be more likely to be found in the underclass. Believe that a black underclass has been created of people who feel marginalised, alienated and frustrated.
Weber-class
Differences within the working class such as ethnic differences were significant. Stratification in modern society could occur on non economic factors such as status and part. Defines class in terms of market situation (knowledge and skills lead to higher wages) and work situation (authority and autonomy). Classes are gourds that share similar these which affects life chances
Status-Parkin
applies the term ’negatively privileged status groups‘ to ethnic minorities . Argues that the ethnic majority (white British) use social closure to keep ethnic minority groups out of positions of authority and status. They face a concrete ceiling rather than a glass one
Status-Barron and Norris
argues that there is a dual labour market. To explain ethnic inequality in employment. Primary labour market has high pay and status, job security, good working conditions and promotion opportunities secondary has lower pay with less security, inferior working conditions and few opportunities for promotion
