The Host Immigrant Model – culture clashes can occur due to different norms and values of ethnic minority groups (surrounding food, dress etc) – They are seen as ‘alien’ to White British people therefore they are feared. 1. Host fear social change and difference 2. Resentment about competing for jobs 3. Failure of ethnic minorities to assimilate Patterson argues that when/if ethnic minorities assimilate they will not face inequality.(reflected in citizenship test and British values at school)

ethnic inequality is due to their cultural differences and low levels of skills but hey were optimistic that in a meritocratic society ethnic inequalities would disappear as immigrants adopted norms and values of mainstream society(assimilate). Explain ethnic inequalities in relation to value consensus and claim ethnic inequalities are temporary and a result of cultural differences.
