What is Managed by Content Filtering
A
- Control of outbound and inbound data such as sensitive materials.
- Control and management of inappropriate content
- Protects against anti-viruses and anti-malware.

URL Scanning
A
- Type of content filtering
- Also called a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI)
- Used to create an allow and block list for specific web sites.
- Manages these sites according to specific categories.

Agent Based
A
- Addresses security for workers who don’t primarily work at location of the organization.
- Content filters or the firewalls that are installed on the personal devices or systems.
- Users can be located anywhere
- Must have updates on a regular basis.

Proxies

- A device that sits between the internet and the users
- Controls the flow content
- Useful for caching information, access control, ULR filtering, content scanning.

Explicit Proxy
A
- Users needs to tell their application to use a proxy for communication rather than connecting directly to the server.

- Don’t need special configurations on the client when communicating with the server.
- The user may no be aware that it is there

Forward Proxy

- A centralized “Internal Proxy”
- The user and the proxy are in the internal network of the organization.
- The organization has control of the proxy
- User communicates to the Proxy and the Proxy communicates to the internet using the set up security configurations.

A
- Content and Web Filters will disallow or allow content based on a qualified domain name
- Content is also managed based on the category of site content.
- Provides different dispositions for blocking content.

- Content and web filters can evaluate a site based on a websites reputation

- Trusthworthy
- Low Risk
- Medium risk
- Suspicious

Automated Reputation
A
- A scan will assess a web site and its content
- Evaluate the information received from that site
- Determine level of reputation appropriate for that site

Manual Reputation
A
- Allows managers to administratively assign a reputation to a specific web site.
- Can add dispositions to specific sites vs relying on the automated system

Domain Name System (DNS) Filtering
A
- Alternate method for filtering out content instead of using content filtering, proxies, or NGFW
- Will determine if a site is not safe and not provide the user with the IP address

Process of DNS Filtering
A
- Information of malicious or not safe websites are updated on the DNS server available on public or commercial lists.
- If found not safe, the filter will provide the user with a default IP address or no IP address
