WEATHER Flashcards
What is weather?
Weather is the day-to-day condition of the atmosphere, including temperature, humidity, precipitation, and wind.
How is heat transferred from the sun to earth?
Heat is transferred from the Sun to Earth through radiation, which is the movement of energy through space as electromagnetic waves.
How does heat move through the atmosphere?
Heat moves through the atmosphere primarily by radiation from the sun, convection currents, and conduction from the Earth’s surface.
Tell me the four stages of the water cycle in order
Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Transpiration.
What is Evaporation?
When the water in a body of water turns into water vapor and rises
What is Condensation?
When water vapor turns into water droplets, it becomes a cloud.
What is precipitation?
When the water from the clouds falls onto the ground.
What is transpiration?
When the precipitated water gathers into the body of water.
When there is a low amount of sunlight, tell me about the evaporation of ocean water (more or less). Do the same thing for a high amount of sunlight.
Low amount: Less
High amount: More
When there is a low amount of sunlight, tell me about the amount of water vapor (less or more). Do the same for a high amount of the sun.
Low amount: less
High amount: more
Tell me about the condensation/ cloud size (small or more significant) when there is little sunlight. Do the same for a high amount of sunlight
Low amount: Small
High amount: Bigger
Tell me about the amount of rainfall when there is little sunlight. Do the same for a high amount of the sun.
Low amount: Less
High amount: More
What is the weather like for high pressure?
Sunny, clear, and calm weather
What is the weather like for low-pressure
Rainy, cloudy, and stormy
What is a cold front? Describe the temperature and draw the symbol.
The temperature is stormy when a cold air mass meets a warm air mass.
