MATTER Flashcards
What is matter, and what is it made up of?
Anything that has weight and takes up space. It is made up of atoms and molecules.
Compare the spacing of molecules in a solid and liquid.
A solid’s molecules are very packed, while a liquid’s molecules are more loosely packed.
What is density?
Density measures how much mass is contained in a given volume of a substance or object.
When something sinks, does it have a higher or lower density
Higher
When something floats, does it have a higher or lower density
Lower
Give me the state of matter, “Melting” changes from and to, along with if the temperature increases or decreases and if the energy of molecules increases or decreases.
Solid to liquid. The temperature increases, and the energy of the molecules increases.
Give me the state of matter, “Freezing,” changes from and to, along with whether the temperature increases or decreases and whether the energy of molecules increases or decreases.
Liquid to solid. The temperature decreases, and the energy of the molecules decreases.
Give me the state of matter. “Vaporization” changes from and to, along with if the temperature increases or decreases and if the energy of molecules increases or decreases.
Liquid to gas. The temperature increases, and the energy of the molecules increases.
Give me the state of matter. “Condensation changes from and to, along with whether the temperature increases or decreases and whether the energy of molecules increases or decreases.
Gas to liquid. The temperature decreases, and the energy of the molecules decreases.
When a liquid is hot, do the molecules move fast or slow
