- the self confidence we have in specific situations
- how sure someone is in their competence in task specific skill

massed practice
- repetitive practice of a skill
- no rest breaks
- e.g. continuous shots in basketball
strengths of massed practice
- helps groove/overlearn skill
- helps to form s-r bonds
good for: - discrete skills
- simple/short duration skills
- autonomous phase
- experienced/motivated performers
limitations of massed practice
- can be too exhausting
- can cause drive reduction/mental fatigue
- errors could increase due to repetitive + continuous nature of practice
- can lead to chronic or overuse injuries
transport
- even quicker
- continued growth of sports companies
- issues with road congestion and expenses/reliability of transport
availability of time/money
- free time and disposable income
- work-life balance issues
maximum strength
ability to produce a maximum amount of force in a singular muscular contraction
one rep max test
performer selects a piece of gym equipment or free weights exercise to test the strength of a specific muscle group, the score is the highest weight the performer can lift once
maximal strength tests advantages
- direct objective measurement of isotonic max strength
- easy procedure on accessible equipment
- can isolate specific muscle groups
maximal strength tests disadvantages
- trial and error may induce early fatigue
- good technique is essential
- potential for injury performing maximal lifts
- expensive equipment
modern tech increasing participation
F - all weather astro + floodlights
A - powerchair football
M- GPS vest gives data on speed, distance covered, movement patterns
E- mass production (cheaper footballs)
S - carbon sport masks to protect face injuries
