development plan Flashcards
Major weakness
- important in clearing set pieces, maintain possession, create scoring opportunities,
- all round important component that will affect each game
Coaching Points
- knees slightly bent
- eyes on ball & anticipate trajectory
- contact with centre of forehead
- head slightly tilted forward
Timescale
- 12 weeks, mesocycle broken down into 6 microcycles
- realistic timescale so the performer has enough time to improve technique
Smart goal setting
S: produce more powerful accurate header
M: how far the you can header an unopposed ball
A: able to practice heading the ball
R: write down the furthest distance they can header the ball before/after each session
T: 12 weeks broken down into six microcycles
Principles of training
M: moderation, the player will only have 2 or 3 sessions
R: continue to practice headers during training and matches so they don’t lose their skill
P: the player must progress the intensity of each session
O: the player must overload to force adaptations to take place
V: variance, each session should be different
Warm up
P: 2 minute jog
M:open the gate, make circles with arms and neck
S: static stretching for trapezius, deltoids, quad+ham groups, etc
D: dynamic stretches such as walking lunges, repeating heading movement (without a ball)
S: skill based practice such as practicing a few headers
week 1-2 drill
- interval training by completing a drill, being the fed the ball from a very close range,
- focusing on getting correct contact on the ball with their forehead rather than direction or power of the header
week 1-2 syllabus link
- first class lever
- fulcrum: neck joint, is inbetween the effort: trapezius, and the load: football.
- effort and load arm are the same length, require equal force for an equal load
- neither mechanical advantage or disadvantage
week 3-4 drill
- interval training and fed the ball from a variety of directions (e.g. front, left and right side)
- practice defending and attacking the ball from a corner and cross unopposed
week 3-4 syllabus link
- pharmacological aid: anabolic steroids to increase muscle mass, illegal, +: better strength performance, - : more aggression, risk of heart attack
week 5-6 drill
- headers the ball back to the feeder with a defender trying to put the performer off
- progress to defender trying to stop the performer being able to reach the ball
week 5-6 syllabus link
- discrete skill, as it has a clear start and finish, and must be restarted to repeat the skill.
week 7-8
- heading drills defending and attacking against an opponent from corners and crosses of varying height, and at varying positions at goal e.g. front post, back post
week 7-8 syllabus link
- more female participants in the 21st century
- still male dominance in sports and coverage
- more women in health and fitness than games
- more female presenters and pundits
week 9-10 drill
- The performer will practice completing heading drills on the move by having the ball fed to them whilst they’re running and heading the ball either forwards or backwards to practice accuracy whilst moving
week 9-10 syllabus link
- creatine to increase power in their headers,
- more stores of PC so can re-synthesize more ATP to provide energy
- risks: gastrointestinal problems, WADA: legal
- good for power performers such as sprinters.
week 11-12 drill
- practice heading the ball in game based drills such as possession drills and small sided matches to replicate match conditions.
week 11-12 syllabus link
- social facilitation when performing headers in front of a crowd
- evaluation apprehension
- counteracted by continuing to practice skill to make it become their dominant response, and practice in front of crowds
