Weakness Flashcards
LMN signs
focal weakness
muscle atrophy
dec reflexes/tone
fasciculations
peripheral nerve lesion
sensory impairment + LMN sign
peripheral neuropathy or polyneuropathy manifestation
distal limb LMN sign and stocking/glove sensory impairment
neck/back pain that radiates in dermatomal distribution + tingling/numbness
radiculopathy
weakness in distal or proximal limb segment is due to what lesion
anterior horn cell lesion
UMN signs
diffuse weakness hyperreflexia spastic babinski hemiparesis/hemiplegia
hemiplegia
unilateral paralysis
hemiplegia from ipsi cervical spinal cord lesion
also has neck/radicular pain and LMN signs with ipsi dorsal column and contra STT affected
hemiplegia from brain stem lesion
has facial weakness or dysarthria/dysphagia
hemiplegia from subcortical lesion in internal capsule/corona radiata
equal weakness in contra lower face and upper/lower limbs
hemiplegia from cortical lesion
unequal weakness between affected upper/lower limbs
hemiplegia where leg is weaker than face/arm
lesion in medial/parasagittal portion of contra motor cortex (think homunculus) or ACA stroke
hemiplegia with face and arm weaker
lesion in lateral portion of contra motor cortex (think homunculus) or MCA stroke
motor cortex isn’t perfused by: MCA, ACA, or PCA?
PCA
bulbar - what and where
