Every 24 months
You can renew your CFI certificate up to 3 months before it expires and still keep your original expiration date

If you let your certificate expire before you renew it, you only have one option… take the CFI practical test again.

- Complete an Industry Sponsored Flight Instructor Refresher Clinic (FIRC)
- Take a Practical Test (checkride) For an Expired CFI Certificate
- Take a Practical Test (checkride) for an Additional CFI Rating
Maintain an 80% First-Time Student Pass Rate - Participation in the FAA Wings Program
- Earn Your Gold Seal Certification

Requirements for FAA Wings Program to able to renew CFI Cert.
A
- Must be a participant in the FAA Wings Program.
- Provide 15 hours of flight training to other participating pilots
- Sign off at least 5 other pilots for their phase of this program.
