FOI Task G Risk Management Flashcards
Risk Management
The goal of risk management is to proactively identify safety-related hazards and mitigate the associated
risks
Principles of Risk Management
Accept no Unnecessary Risk
Make Risk Decisions at the Appropriate Level
Accept Risk When Benefits Outweigh the Costs
Integrate Risk Management into Planning at All Levels
Risk Management Process
Identify the Hazard -
Assess the Risk - Determine the level of risk
Mitigate the Risk - Look into ways to reduce or eliminate risk
Level of Risk
Severity (extent of possible loss)
Probability (likelihood that a hazard will cause a loss)
Assessing Risk
Pilots must differentiate in advance between a low-risk flight and a high-risk flight
Assessing Risk - Likelihood of an event
Probable
Occasional
Remote
Improbable
Assessing Risk - Severity of event
Catastrophic
Critical
Marginal
Negligible
IMSAFE Checklist
Mitigate risk by determining your own physical and mental readiness for flight
i. Illness – Symptoms?
ii. Medication – Taking any?
iii. Stress – Family, money, relationships, work, etc.
iv. Alcohol – Been drinking?
v. Fatigue – Well rested?
vi. Eating – Properly nourished?
PAVE Checklist
Pilot - Am I ready?
Aircraft - Is the aircraft appropriate for the trip?
Environment - Weather, Terrain, Airports, Airspace
External Factors -
