Waves Flashcards
1
Q
What are seismic waves?
A
Seismic Waves are energy waves that travels through the Earth, and they are detected by SEISMOGRAPHS.
2
Q
What are S-Waves?
A
S-Waves are slower than P-Waves. The S stands for SECONDARY or SHEAR. They move up, down, side to side and perpendicular to wave travel.
3
Q
What are P-Waves?
A
P-Waves, the faster of the two, compress and expand while in travel, sort of similar to sound waves.
4
Q
What is a Seismograph?
A
A Seismograph is an instrument that measures and detects the SEISMIC WAVES that move through the Earth, which are caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other disturbances.
