Ecology Flashcards
What is Ecology?
Ecology is the study of how organisms interact with each other and their surroundings, encompassing both biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) factors. Ecologists examine these interactions at various levels, from individual organisms to populations, communities, ecosystems, and even the entire biosphere. The word “ecology” comes from the Greek words “oikos” (house) and “logos” (study of), literally meaning “the study of our house” (Earth)
What is Population Ecology?
Population ecology is the study of how living things and inanimate (dead/not alive) things factors influence the density, dispersion, and size of a population of a single species within a specific area, and how these populations interact with their environment
