Items in the Rock Cycle Flashcards
Sediment
Sediments are solid material, like eroded/weathered rocks, minerals, or the remains of organisms, that is moved and deposited in a new location via deposition.
Magma + Lava
Magma is molten rock that is found under the Earth’s surface. Lava is found above the surface, usually after a volcanic eruption.
Igneous Rock + Ext. + Int.
An igneous rock is rock formed from the cooling and solidification of magma or lava.
Intrusive Igneous Rocks are igneous rocks that form when magma cools and solidifies within the Earth’s crust.
Extrusive Igneous Rocks are again, Igneous rocks that form when magma cools and solidifies on the Earth’s surface (as lava).
Sedimentary Rock
Sedimentary Rock is rock formed from the accumulation or deposition of sediments, such as sand, pebbles, minerals, or organic matter, that are cemented together. They are formed by Cementation and compaction.
Metamorphic Rock
Metamorphic Rock is rock that have been changed from their original form (igneous, sedimentary, or even other metamorphic rocks) by heat, pressure, or chemical reactions.
