Waves Flashcards
What is amplitude?
the maximum displacement of any point from the equilibrium position.
What is frequency?
the number of complete waves that pass a given point in one second.
What is the definition of a wave?
Waves transfer energy from one energy store to another.
How do you calculate wavelength?
v=f*y
What is wavelength?
the distance between the same point in successive cycles.
What are the 2 types of waves?
1)Transverse Waves
2)Longitudinal Waves
What are transverse waves?
Where the waves transfer energy in a direction at right angles to the direction in which particles directing. This means that the oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer.
What are longitudinal waves?
Longitudinal waves transfer energy in the same direction in which the particles are vibrating. This means that the oscillations are parallel to the direction of energy transfer.
What are some examples of longitudinal waves?
-sound waves
-shock waves
What are some examples of transverse waves?
-EM Waves
-ripples in a pond
-A wave in a string
What are some of the uses of different types of waves?
-communication
-Medical uses
-food processing
