Gas Laws+pressure,fluid,viscosity Flashcards
What does Boyle’s law state?
Boyle’s law states that for a fixed mass of an ideal gas at constant temperature,the pressure of the gas is inversely proportional to its volume.
What are three types of gas laws?
1)Charles law
2)Boyle’s law
3)The pressure law
What does charles’s law state?
Charles’s law states that at constant pressure,the volume of a fixed mass of an ideal gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature.
What does the pressure law state?
The pressure law states that the pressure of a fixed mass and fixed volume of gas is directly proportional to the absolute temperature of the gas.
what do you mean by absolute zero?
The temperature in which all molecular motion stops and the pressure of a gas falls to zero.
What is a fluid?
is a substance that can flow because its particles can move:a fluid has no fixed shape.
What is pressure?
The force per unit area exerted by a fluid on its container.
p=F/A
F=the force in newtons
A=the area of the surface
What is Viscosity?
A measure of the resistance to flow of a fluid.
What is density?
is a measure of how compact a substance is-how close together the particles are.
p=m/v
p=density
m=mass
v=volume
What is Newtonian fluid?
the viscosity remains constant as the applied force changes.
What is Non-Newtonian Fluid?
the viscosity does not remain constant as the applied force changes.
What is volumetric flow rate?
Is defined as the volume of a fluid moving through a given area per unit of time.
What is mass flow rate?
Is defined as the mass of a fluid moving through a given area per unit of time.
What is steady flow?
Is when the rate of flow does not change over time.This means that all particles are moving at a constant velocity at a certain point.
What is Turbulent Flow?
Is when different parts of the fluid have different velocity.
