Wave Motion Flashcards
What the the two types of waves ?
Transverse waves and longitudinal waves
What an you say about transverse waves ?
Transverse wave is the one in which the oscillations of y are perpendicular to wave velocity. Electromagnetic waves are transverse in nature.
What can you say about longitudinal waves ?
A longitudinal wave is the one in which oscillations o u are parallel to the wave velocity. Sound Waves are longitudinal in nature.
What is the general eq of wave motion ?
y=f(ax±bt)
What is the formula of wave speed ?
Wave speed v = coefficient of t/ coefficient of x= b/a
What is the formula of angular frequency ω?
T= 2π/ω
ω=2πf
f=1/T =ω/2π
What is the formula of wave number k?
Wave number k= 2π/λ
where λ=wave length.
What is the formula of wave speed ?
Wave speed v = ω/k= fλ
What is the phase difference of one particle at a time interval ?
Δδ=ω(t1~t2)
Δδ=2π/T * ΔT
What is the phase difference at one time between two particles at a path difference of delta x?
Δδ= 2π/λ . Δx
What is the formula of energy density u?
Energy density u= 1/2pω²Α²= energy of oscillations per unit volume
What is the formula of power P of wave motion?
Power P = 1/2pω²Α²Sv= energy transferred per unit time
What is the formula of intensity in wave motion ?
Intensity I= 1/2pω²Α² v= energy transferred per unit time per unit area
What is the phase difference of longitudinal wave ?
π/2
What is the speed of transverse wave on a stretched wire v?
v =
√T/μ=√T/pS
