Sound Waves. Flashcards
What is formula for calculating sound level L?
L = 10 log₁₀ I/I₀.
Here ,
I= Intensity of minimum audible sound.
When comparing two sound levels L1 and L2? What is the formula in case of point source ?
l₂/l₁=(r₁/r₂)^
When comparing two sound levels L1 and L2? What is the formula in case of line source ?
l₂/l₁=(r₁/r₂)
What is the formula of Doppler effect in sound ?
f’=f[v±v(m)±v₀÷v±v(m)±v(s)]
What is the formula of beats in sound waves ?
f(b)=f1-f2
What is frequency of an open organ pipe ?
f= n(v/2l), here n=1,2,3…
What is the frequency of a closed organ pipe ?
f=n(v/4l). n=1,3,5…..
In such a case, using n=1,3,5..we get first harmonic or fundamental tone , first overtone or third harmonic , second overtone or fifth harmonic and so on.
What type of waves are formed in stretched wire ?
Stationary transverse waves are formed in a stretched wire.
What type of waves are formed in an organ pipe ?
Longitudinal stationary waves are formed in open pipes.
Which end of pipe is displacement antinode, but pressure and density nodes ?
Open end of pipe is displacement antinode but pressure and density node.
Which end of pipe is displacement node , but pressure and density antinodes ?
Closed end of pipe is displacement node but pressure and density antinode.
What happens to fundamental frequency of open pipe and closed pipe when both open pipe and closed pipe are of same length ?
Then the fundamental frequency of open pipe is two times the fundamental frequency of closed pipe.
