Waterfalls ❄️❄️❄️ Flashcards
1st step in forming a waterfall.
The river flows over areas of hard and soft rock , eroding soft rock more quickly than hard rock, through abrasion and hydraulic action
2nd step in forming a waterfall
The hard rock sticks out , causing a step to form
3rd step in forming a waterfall
Over time the step will get bigger and the soft rock at the bottom of the now waterfall is eroded to form a plunge pool.
4th step in forming a waterfall
The soft rock will erode deeper and backwards, undercutting the hard rock and causing the step to collapse.
5th step in forming a waterfall
This process repeats and the plunge pool collapses and the waterfall moves back, creating a gorge.
