18
Q

Where is it most likely for the population to increase and why

19
Q

What is the population of LEDCs likely to change to by 2050

A

Rise from 5.3 billion to 7.8 billion

20
Q

What is the population of MEDCs likely to change to by 2050

A

It’s expected to stabilise and in some places even decrease
Expected to remain at 1.2 billion

21
Q

Why is there a population decline in Europe

A

Low fertility rates

22
Q

When did Germany reports drop in its population

A

2007

23
Q

When do we use population density

A

As a measure of how many people live in a set area

24
Q

What is population density measured in

A

People per square kilometre Km2

Population density = number of people ➗ area kilometres square

25
Q

Densely populated places have

A

Lots of people living there
High population density

26
Q

Sparsely populated places have

A

Less people living there
Low population density

27
Q

Name places that are sparsely populated

A

Australian outback
Tropical rainforest
Sahara dessert
Antarctica
Himalayas

28
Q

Name places that are densely populated

A

Tokyo
Rio de Janeiro
Cairo
New York
Bangle dash
Western Europe

29
Q

What is population distribution

A

The way in which the population is spread out over an area

30
Q

What different ways can the population be distributed

A

Evenly
Clustered- lots of people in one area
Random- no pattern of more or less people

31
Q

What can population distribution be affected by

A

Factors of physical and human geography

32
Q

What countries in Europe have the highest population density

A

Netherlands
Countries in north west Europe

33
Q

What countries in Europe have the lowest population density

A

Northern Europe like Scandinavia
Some southern Europe like Spain

34
Q

What will densely populated places have

A

Pleasant climate, good food supply, good water supply, industry + jobs, flat/gently sloping land, good soil for crops , open grassland for animals, money for investment, natural resources for industry , good roads/railways/ports

35
Q

What will sparsely populated places have

A

Steep slopes, too hot or too cold, too wet, too dry, dense forest, few natural resources, lack of investment, poor soils, poor water supply, poor transport links, little investment and few jobs.

36
Q

Is the Himalayan mountains densely or sparsely populated? And why?

A

Sparsely
Too cold for people. Steep slopes are bad for communication and settlement. Poor, thin soil, unsuitable for crops

37
Q

Is Western Europe densely or sparsely populated? And why?

A

Densely .
Low lying and gently sloping.
Pleasant climate. Good water supply and soil for farming.
Easy communications and many resources for industry.

38
Q

Is the Amazon rainforest densely or sparsely populated? And why?

A

Sparsely
Too hot.
Dense forest makes communications and settlement difficult.

39
Q

Is the polar regions (Antarctica) densely or sparsely populated? And why?

A

Sparsely.
Too cold. No soil for farming crops. Snow and ice makes communications and settlement very difficult

40
Q

How can you tell that New York is densely populated?

A

Buildings are close together this suggests that there’s lots of jobs and people.
Buildings are tightly packed together which suggests that there’s lots of people in a small space.

41
Q

How can you tell that a mountain is sparsely populated?

A

There’s steep slopes which make it hard to build and grow on. Very cold temperatures which is too cold for growing crops

42
Q

Is Bangladesh sparsely or densely populated? And why?

A

Densely
Low lying and flat. Rich fertile soil.
It’s hot and wet which are ideal farming conditions.

43
Q

Is the Sahara desert sparsely or densely populated? And why?

A

Sparsely.
Too hot and dry for people to live or crops to grow. Sand makes communications difficult.

44
Q

What is population density

A

A measure of how many people live in a set area.

45
Q

What’s the most populated country in the world

A

China
There are over 1.3 billion people living there

46
Q

What is the least populated country in the world.

A

Tuvalu.
With a population of just over 11,000

47
Q

What are Transitional countries

A

Transitional countries are states which are becoming more economically developed
