Water On Earth Flashcards
Water Cycle
The repeated movement of water through the environment in different forms
Evaporation
The changing of liquid water to water vapor (liquid to gas)
Condensation
Water vapor turns into a liquid (gas to liquid)
Precipitation
The water falls from a cloud as rain, snow, sleet, or hail
Runoff
Water moving downhill
Accumulation
Water collects at the lowest point
Sublimation
Ice changes into water vapor (gas) without melting
Frost
Water vapor (gas) freezes without turning into a liquid
Transpiration
When water is released by the plants leaves and then it evaporates
Cirrus Clouds
Thin, and wispy, white, high-altitude. Bring fair weather, and made out of ice crystals
Vertical Clouds
Bring thunderstorms, sometimes called thunderheads/Cumulonimbus
Cumulus
Mid-Altitude. Look dark on bottom b/c little sunlight gets through. It is also small and puffy.
Stratus
Low-Altitude. Cover the sky. Layered and look dark
Fog
Stratus cloud at ground level, and its gray and its is made out of ice crystals.
Rain
Its when ice crystals form inside a cloud and when it can’t hold the ice crystals, it will fall out of the cloud a water droplets.
