Water On Earth Flashcards
Water Cycle
The repeated movement of water through the environment in different forms
Evaporation
Changing of liquid to water vapor
Condensation
Water vapor turns into a liquid
Precipitation
When water falls from a cloud as rain, snow, sleet, or hail
Runoff
Is water moving downhill
Accumulation
When water collects at the lowest point
Sublimation
Ice changing into water vapor without first melting
Frost
Water vapor freezes without melting
Cirrus Cloud
Thin, wispy, white, made up of ice crystals
Vertical Clouds
Form in vertical shape, sometimes called thunderheads
(Alto)Cumulus
Bottoms look dark because not s lot of sun light gets through, puffy balls, and small
Stratus
Cover the whole sky, look dark because not a lot of sunlight gets through
Fog
Really a stratus cloud, on ground level
Transpiration
When a plant lets out water and it turns into water vapor
Rain
They fall from the clouds and then the ice crystals melt in the warm air and become water
Freezing Rain
Ice crystals fall the they become rain and then they refreeze on the way down when it becomes below 32 degrees f
Sleet
Ice crystals melt and then they touch objects and freeze and they are hard
Snow
It falls from the clouds and it is below 32 degrees f the hole time
Hail
Is when the wind blows the clouds ice crystals and they become bigger and then the hail falls
